He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Dalton and Millie Matthews; his mother Lorice Jones (Matthews); and his former wife Judy Matthews (Poole). He is survived by: his son Todd V. Matthews of Boston, Massachusetts; his siblings, Evelyn Goudy (Elijah "Skeet") of Sandusky, Gloria Sallie (Jessie Sr.) of Grand Rapids, Betty Walker of Toledo and Henry "Jimmy" Jones of Port Clinton; his aunt Katherine Irby of Lorain; and his uncles, Chester of Sandusky and Ben Matthews (Terrie) of Sandusky. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Walter showed his generosity by donating to various charities.
