He was predeceased by: his wife Ronda Hartley (Schoenegge); his son Chris Smith; his grandson Zech Protzman; his parents, Charles Hartley and Virginia Hartley; and his brothers, Donald, Thomas, Ronald and Elden Hartley.
He is survived by: his children, Charmaine Brown (Jason), Shannon Hartley and Benjamin Hartley (Jennifer); and his grandchildren, Ashley, Brianne, Katelynn, Dustin, Brendenn, Kristofer, Kayle, Kyler, Casey, Christian and Connor. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Erie County Humane Society.
