He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Dee and Geraldine Charlton; his siblings, David, Corrina and Dorothy; and his close friend Willie "Bud" Marshall.

He is survived by: his significant other Jeanette Charlton (Robinson); his children, Darrell (Felicia) of Sandusky, Tracy of Sandusky, James of Sandusky, Antje of Sandusky, Tiara of Sandusky and Sharita (Yrik); his siblings, Cherry Ann of Minnesota, Carolyn of Minnesota, Rose of Lorain, Natalie of Lorain, Elizabeth of Lorain, Joseph (Diane) of Lorain, Ronald (Marsetta) of Lorain, Nathaniel of Lorain, Jeremiah of Lorain and Gerald (Gina); his grandchildren, Dae-Jhi, Bryson, Davion, DaSharon, Daviona, Davanai, Dkari, Darrell, Tracy, Anjevia, Janiya, Shamontay, Jaterrance, Jameir, Ja'Sonti, JaMiyah and Wisdom; his great grandchildren, Daelyn, Braelyn, Diamone, Nasir and Aamir; his brother Steward William Sr.; and his sister-in-law Cheryl Williams. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
