He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry D. Van Meter and Bonnie J. Van Meter (Paden); his wife Sharon (Burris Kohlmyer); and his brother David Van Meter. He is survived by: his children, Michael, Melissa Leimeister, Nathan and Jessie Kinney. He is also survived by cousins and an aunt.
