He was predeceased by: his parents, Grady Dye and Marybelle Dye; his former wife Louise Dye (Elsey); his brother Fred Dye; and his granddaughter Jennifer Lyn Haight.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley Dye (Richardson); his children, Cindy Haight (Dennis), Karen Blankenship (Robert) and John L. Dye, Jr.; his grandchildren, David, Richard, Thomas Dye, Brian Haight (Rachel), Michael Haight, Andrew Blankenship (Angela) and Alissa Blankenship; and his great grandchild Levi Haight.
