He was predeceased by: his parents, Louis F. Schmehl and Marie A. Schmehl (Huffman); his son Robert L. Schmehl, Jr.; and his sisters, Marjorie Stienecker and Carol Raymond.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy J. Nicolson; his children, Susan Gates of Suanee, GA, David Schmehl (Tonya) of Virginia Beach, VA, Deanna Schmehl of Winston-Salem, NC, Sean Schmehl (Celeste) of New Bremen, OH, Jason Schmehl (Stephanie) of Wapakoneta, OH and Kyle Schmehl (Julie) of St. Marys, OH; and his sisters, Martha Coby of Celina, OH, Dottie Peffley of Celina, OH, Jane Thomes of St. Marys, OH, Louise Davis of Celina, OH and Allie Carpenter of Celina, OH. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren 7 great-grandchildren.
