He was predeceased by: his parents, August Nowak and Anna Nowak (Hanson); his former wife Ruth Elouise Nowak (Hetrick); his wife Nataline Kay Nowak (Grandinette); and his daughters, Peggy Irene Nowak and Christine Campbell.

He is survived by: his children, Dolores Ann Turner (Chuck), Harry A. Nowak (Rebecca), Marilyn Kline (Perry), Larry Nowak (Luanne), Garry Nowak (Robin), Leah Herman (Jack), Donna Darrah (Luke) and Robin Rhinehart; and his stepchildren, Tim Simmons (Carrie), Belinda Simmons and Trevor Simmons (Dana). He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, and generations of nieces and nephews.
