She was predeceased by: her parents, Giancandido Marino DeMatteis and Alessandrina Vespasiani; her husband Erminio Catignani; her brothers, Giuseppe and Goffredo DeMatteis; and her friends, Emma Rubeis and Veronica Somplack.

She is survived by: her nephew Humphrey Olivieri; her daughters, Giulia Kennedy, Maria Zahran (Hassan) and Diana Chappell; her grandchildren, Alessandra, Valentina, Cassandra, Marina, Sylvan, Andrew, Laura, Ava and Lauren; her siblings, Elena Olivieri (Onofrio), Leda Caratozzollo and Edmondo DeMatteis (Anna Laura); and her siblings-in-law, Onofrio Olivieri, Elsa Pizzi DeMatteis and Silvana DeMatteis. She is also survived by her children and grandchildren.

In place of sending flowers, it was Iole's special request that family and friends consider a memorial donation to St. Jude's Children Hospital or to the American Cancer Society.
