He is survived by: his wife Dianne Dunham Wales; his children, Duane Wales of Portsmouth, John Wales of Portsmouth, Dan Wales (Sarah), Shane Dunham (Tracie) of Minford, Jodi Pierron (Andy) of Portsmouth and Chrissy Wales (Steve Phillips) of Minford; his sister Darlene Wales of Lexington, KY; his grandchildren, Derek Wales, Hannah Wales, Brad Pierron (Nina), Brooke Pierron, Shelby Charles (Nick), Caleb Dunham, Steven Phillips and Taylor Phillips; and his close friend Jerry Vaughn of Florida. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
