It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Miriam Elizabeth Somers (Port Clinton, Ohio), born in Akron, Ohio, who passed away on October 4, 2021, at the age of 100, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Dr. Edward Benedict and Sarah Rosaire Malloy (Steinmetz); her former spouse Thomas Haldon Gabel; and her sister Julie Clear (James). She is survived by: her son-in-law Paul; her husband Murray Somers; her sister Mary Julia; her friend Murray Somers; her children, Sarah Marie Sigler (Robb), Thomas Edward Gabel (LuAnn), Mary Elizabeth Hurt-Eiermann (Paul) and Edward Malloy Gabel (Monique); and her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Molly, Catherine Sigler, Mary Bryniarski (Andrew), Colleen Omahan (Christopher), Meghan, Thomas Gabel, Julia, Jeffrey Hurt and Gabriella Gabel.

The family kindly requests no flowers or plants.

“Your mother was an amazing lady and a dear friend. She substituted for me so many times. The kids loved her. I have to laugh sometimes she would leave me notes in shorthand. I took that class in high school, but hated it. I always knew my classes loved her and they were in good hands. She was so proud of all of you. I feel blessed to have known her. We had many laughs together throughout the years.”
