He was predeceased by: his parents, Alonzo Hernandez and Felipà Hernandez (Herrera); his spouse Lucia Cavazos; his son Oscar Hernandez; and his brothers, Edwardo Hernandez, Ernest Hernandez and Erasmo Hernandez.
He is survived by: his children, Elijio Hernandez Jr., Olga Ebert, Eddie Hernandez (Cheryl Smith) and Artemio "Archie" Hernandez (Kami); and his siblings, Elais "Cookie" Hernandez, Elda Gonzolaz and Elva Gonzolaz.
