He was predeceased by: his parents, William Stivers and Ada Hawk Stivers; his son Richard; his sister Wilma Bahr (Victor); his son Junior Hawthorne; and his great grandchild Carlos Hargraves.

He is survived by: his friends, Russ Brown, Shorty Hackett, Judge O'Brien, Jim O'Brien and Lionel Boggs; his wife Betty Hawk; his daughters, Rebecca Hargraves (Michael) and Janet Tignor (Mark); his daughter-in-law Barbara Hawthorne; and his nieces, Laura and Mallory. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
