He was predeceased by: his parents, James F. Nelson and Mary Agnes Comer Nelson; his grandson Derek Kirby; his sister Janet Shepherd; and his grandmother Janie Comer.
He is survived by: his spouse Sandy Wolfe Nelson; his children, Kelly Burke (Michael Gleason), Janna Keney (Michael Lee), Mary Buffy Nelson, Alesha Day (Bob) and Michael Lee Keney; his grandchildren, Joshua, Mikey, Krista, Jaela and Madison; his godson Corey Putman (Tosh); his brother-in-law Hubert Wolfe (Marcia); and his son-in-law Sherman Mike Kirby. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
