He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles W. Mertz and Alma Mertz (Schulze); and his grandson Charles Oliver Mertz. He is survived by: his sons, G. Michael Mertz (Kelly) of Piqua, Scott Mertz of Piqua, Joseph Mertz (Samantha) of Crestview, Jonathan Mertz (Melanie) of Troy and Joshua Mertz (Nicole) of Tipp City; his grandchildren, Logan, Gabrielle, Ellexis, Jackson, Alyson, Angelo, Emarose, Connor and Caio; and his siblings, Norbert Mertz (Debbie) of Sidney, Kenneth Mertz (Barb) of Celina, Ronald Mertz (Deb) of Oklahoma, Victor Mertz (Karen) of Sidney, Leon Mertz (Susan) of Minster and Rebecca Roznowski (Dan) of Wapakoneta.
Visitation was held on Thursday, September 26th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home (333 High St, Piqua, OH 45356). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, September 27th 2024 at 10:30 AM at the St. Mary Catholic Church (528 Broadway, Piqua, OH 45356).
