She was predeceased by: her parents, Alva Thornton and Violet Thornton (Holeton); her aunt Vannie Davis (Holeton); and her grandsons, Brian Hartzell and Philip Harris, Jr..
She is survived by: her significant other Loren Asher; her children, Pamela Freeman of Ft. Myers, Telisa Gonzalez of Piqua, Kim Shepherd of Anna, James Dorsten Jr. of Piqua and Lawana Wallace of Troy; her stepdaughter Sherry Hartzell of Fletcher; and her brother James Yontz of Dayton. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
