He was predeceased by: his parents, William Patrick Schmitz Sr. and Dorothy Grace Schmitz; and his sister Janet Angelo. He is survived by: his sons, Gordon and Patrick Schmitz; his friend Bill; his wife Ruthie (Ruthie); his daughter Joanna (Schmitz); his son-in-law Sven; his grandsons, Jack and Max; his daughter-in-law Annie; his grandchildren, Lillian, Silvia, Ella, Merriam and William; and his siblings, Sue Finn and Joe Schmitz (Laura).

To honor Bill and in lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Epiphany Lutheran Church memorial garden.
