He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Shilling and Viva Shilling (Sleesman); his wife Mary Ellen; his son Ken; and his sisters, Sandra Palmer and Marilyn Shilling.

He is survived by: his children, Ann (Dennis), Robert Jr. (Sandra) and Marilyn; and his grandchildren, Kristin Brandon (Nathan), Brian, Jordan (Whitney), Joel, Robby, Catherine, Emily and Sarah. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren.
