Larry McCartney wrote a sympathy message

“Jerry and I first met in the early 1970s, right after I left active duty and joined the Lou Diamond Detachment, Marines Corps League. Jerry was a proud Marine who routinely did what he could to help anyone, particularly a veteran -- he was one (1) of a kind. Through the years Jerry and I did many things, to include the annual Toys for Tots program. Jerry embodied the ethos of the Marine Corps -- service to God and country. I am a better man for knowing him. Semper Fidelis!!! Larry McCartney”
