He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Kester and Ruth Kester (Wiggins); and his brother Terry Kester. He is survived by: his wife Linda Kester (Herron); his children, Mark Kester (Cathy), Missy Kester (Shane McCreary) and Gina Yorty (Jesse); his grandchildren, Kyle Kester (Madison), Amanda Renicker (Phil), Jordan Cash (Chris), Carter Kester, Landyn Yorty, Ezri Yorty, Skyler and Klhoe McCreary; and his great grandchildren, Phillip, Lemmy and Kambry.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be to either, the Kidney Foundation, Donate Life, or American Diabetes Association.
