He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald A. Eckel and Jean Bookenberger (Coger); his stepfather Dale Bookenberger; and his brother Ronald Weber. He is survived by: his wife Harriet Brooks; his sons, Ray Donald (Melissa) of Wayne and Travis Donald (Debbie) of Bartlett; his grandchildren, Noah, Allison (Justice), Isaac, Seth, Nicholas, Alexander, Tyler and Jonah; his great grandchildren, Collyn and Stevie; and his siblings, Tom Weber (Sue), Jim Eckel (Yvonne), Sherrie Burkhardt, Melanie Schutte (Tom), Jon Eckel (Lisa) and Jennifer Eckel. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to The BG Christian Food Pantry.
