He was predeceased by: his parents, Edgar Nichols and Pauline Nichols (Barnes); his wife Sibbie Nichols (James); and his son Sheldon Nichols. He is survived by: his children, Kenny Nichols of Peebles, Robert Nichols of Peebles, Karen Lowe (Mike) of Lynchburg, Cassie Bowser (Tony Rosenberger) of Lynchburg, Sharon Nichols of Columbus and Tina Copley of Peebles. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
