He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifford Markel and Madge Reaper Markel; and his brother Randall Markel. He is survived by: his wife Dottie Lou Markel (Sizemore); his children, Raymond K. Markel Jr. (Tammy) of Pedro, Eric Lee Markel (Brenda) of Pedro, Billy Joe Markel (Bernadine) of Pedro and Rhonda Depriest (Scott) of Pedro; his siblings, Beverly Norris of Pedro and Scott Markel (Leah) of Pedro; and his grandchildren, Zachariah Markel (Skye), Lindsay McFann (Matt), Becky Depriest, Scotty Depriest, Katie Holderby (Caleb), Raven Markel (Tabitha) and Jennifer Johnson. He is also survived by son 11 great-grandchildren and many other friends.
