He was predeceased by: his wife Betty Lucile Schmidt (Axe); his brothers, Glen Schmidt (Donna) and William Schmidt (Linda); and his sons, Steven James Schmidt and Lynn Joseph Schmidt (Brenda). He is also survived by 31 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
