He was predeceased by: his parents, Abraham Merritte and Beatrice Merritte (Johnson); his sons, Gregory Allen Merritte and Frederick Leland Merritte; and his siblings, Glen, Craig, Randall Merritte, Roberta Bair and Naomi Quigley.
He is survived by: his wife Phyllis E. Grunden; his daughter Christina Gonzales, Jr. (Antonio) of Paulding; his grandson Tony Gonzales (Amber); his great grandchildren, Braelyn and Jerica Gonzales; and his sister Janette Miller of Findlay.
Memorials may be made to the Mandale Church for their missionary work.
