He was predeceased by: his parents, Beatrice "Bea" Bitler and Levi Bitler; his daughter Shelly Harless; his brothers, Levi "Buddy" Bitler, Jack Bitler (Barb) and Bill Bitler; and his brother-in-law Dan Hartman.

He is survived by: his wife Barbara Bitler; his children, Rich Bitler (Debra), Brian Bitler (Terri), Tammy Thiel (Bob) and Chris Bitler (Chelsea); his sisters, Shirley Hartman and Peggy Snider; and his sister-in-law Mary Bitler. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
