He was predeceased by: his parents, Hooper Prater and Susie Prater (Endicott); his wife Dorothy Prater; his daughter Dorothy Judith Wolfe; and his siblings, Arnold, Ralph, Hoy, Earl Prater and Ruth McCoy.

He is survived by: his son Julius Lee Prater (Dean Barber); his grandchildren, Julean Prater, Stacy Holland, Kelly Palumbo and Jessica Bono; and his sister Ruby Barnes (Charles). He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
