He is survived by: his wife Shalini; his children, Raina, Shay and Anya; his pet Luna; his parents, Satish and Saroj; and his sister Poonam Vaghela (Ameet). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

“My husband and I are so very sorry to hear Dr. Makkar lost his battle. We were in the office just before he was leaving for treatment. He was such a wonderful doctor. So easy to talk with and we dearly loved him. He will be missed forever. Our hearts are so very heavy with his loss. Our prayers are with his loved ones and they were very much loved. Rest in peace.
