Joseph Bast wrote a sympathy message

“Jay was a good friend, “the world’s most optimistic man,” an athlete even into old age, an author, public speaker, public intellectual, and fearless spokesperson for the truth. We all owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude. The Heartland Institute … where he was a senior fellow and science director for some 26 years … has a nice tribute to him on its website at www.heartland.org. Joseph Bast Appleton, Wisconsin”
