He was predeceased by: his parents, Wallace D. Sr. Purkey and Lena Purkey (Hamman). He is survived by: his wife Ruth Butcher; his children, Robin VanGorder (Steve) and Justin Purkey (Anna); his siblings, Craig Purkey (Shirley) and Amber Jean Eudaly (Nate); and his grandchildren, Megan Dianda (J.), Devin VanGorder (Morgan), Kyle Purkey (April) and Tyler Purkey (Kerri). He is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
