He was predeceased by: his parents, Franklin Merritt and Irene Merritt (Nimigean); and his brother Bob. He is survived by: his wife Shelly Newell; his sister-in-law Deb; his niece Kimberly (Joe); his nephew Matthew; his great-niece Zoey; and his in-laws, David, Beverly Newell, Kelly, Steve Robon and Bob Newell (Sheryl). He is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Doug's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Toledo Area Humane Society.
