It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Betty Lou Smollen of Ontario, Ohio, who passed away on April 21, 2025, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, William Lester and Velma Moore (Waterbeck); her husbands, George P. Smollen and Wilbur Pete Bechtel; and her stepchildren, Phyllis May and Tim Smollen.
She is survived by: her daughter Kathi; her son-in-law Rusty Gilbert of Mansfield; her son Kirk; her daughter-in-law Mary Ann Bechtel of Inverness, FL.; her grandchildren, Brittany Fannin Sweitzer (James), Shane Bechtel and Kelly Gracie (Robert); her stepchildren, Jennifer Kunz (Mike) of Mansfield, Sally Durbin of Mansfield, Jane Key (Phillip) of Rocky Mount, NC, Keith Bechtel of Bellville and Joel Smollen of Rocky Mount, NC.; her sister Vicky; her brother-in-law Terrell Wallace of Mansfield; her brother Terry A. Glass of Mansfield; and her friend Mary Ann Sautter. She is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 14th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Lexington Avenue Chapel (2553 Lexington Ave, Mansfield, OH 44904). A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 14th 2025 at 5:00 PM at the same location.
