He is survived by: his sons, Dale Merkle (Lisa) of Middle Point, Larry Merkle of Middletown and David Merkle (Lisa) of Ohio City, Ohio; his brother Willard Merkle (Janeen) of Van Wert, Ohio; and his grandchildren, Lora Dirmeyer (Rick), Ashley McDougall (Josh), Ashton Colpetzer (Hannah), Steven Merkle (Cassandra Kline) and Zacheriah Merkle (Shelby). He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.
