She was predeceased by: her former husband Stuart Edwards; her parents, Millard Owens and Lola Owens; her parents-in-law, Sam and Pauline Edwards; and her siblings, Robert, Geraldine Owens and Joyce Simpkins.
She is survived by: her husband John Bates; her children, Michelle Edwards-Durbin and David Edwards; her grandchildren, Bryan (Amanda), Samantha, Derek Durbin, Morgan, Ronald Edwards, Hadley and Talia Durbin; her sisters, Barb Brooks (Les), Millie Stahl and Pam Morris (Dave); her brother-in-law Steve Edwards (Connie); and her stepchildren, Jason Bates (Siri), Ray Bates (late Erin), Matt Bates (Tiffany), Andy Bates (Tara), Donald Bates, Angela Wagner (Jay) and Grace Bates. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Haven Missionary Baptist Youth Group or American Cancer Society.
