He was predeceased by: his parents, Clem Schlater and Genora Schlater (Coverman); his wife Irene Schlater (Hemmelgarn); his father-in-law Paul Sherman; his great grandchildren, Gracelyn Schlater and Irene Regina Schlater; and his parents-in-law, Ed Schlater, Earl, Virginia Schlater, Marilyn Braun, Marilyn Schlater, Norman, Beverly Hemmelgarn, Cyril, Odesse Hemmelgarn, Clete, Florece Hemmelgarn, Donna Hemmelgarn, Andrew Westgerdes and Paul Mestemaker.
He is survived by: his children, Sharon (Bill Langenkamp), Jane (Gary Smith), Bob (Judy Schlater), Nick (Jane Schlater), Joe (Lynne Schlater) and Cindy (Randy Giere); and his parents-in-law, Ken Schlater, Melvin Schlater, Don, Margaret Schlater, Betty, Velma Schlater, Paul Braun, Ruth Westgerdes and Mary Mestemaker. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 72 great-grandchildren.
