He was predeceased by: his parents, William B. McGinnis and Mary Louise McGinnis (Gleydura); and his sister Mary Louise Weikart. He is survived by: his wife Judith Haslett; his sons, James McGinnis of Minnesota and Tom McGinnis (Nora) of Chagrin Falls; his grandchildren, Alec, Emily and Benjamin; and his siblings, Betty Petrilla, Carol Ackerman and James McGinnis.
