He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Sweeting and Dorothy Sweeting (Wilcox); his wife Joy Sweeting (Montgomery); his daughter Lori Carpenter; his granddaughter Holly Douglas; and his brothers, Keith and Jim Sweeting.

He is survived by: his sons, Jeff Sweeting (Jennie) of Shelby, Mark Sweeting of North Fairfield and Steve Sweeting (Susan) of North Fairfield. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
