He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruth Payne and Roy F. Payne; and his brother Roy S. Payne. He is survived by: his wife Betty Jo Payne (Meents); his children, Andrew Payne, Christine Kirby (Jim) and Sarah Poppleton (Pete); and his grandchildren, Ellie Payne, James, Kayla, Kendall, Jacob Kirby, Ava, Natalie and Ben Poppleton.
