He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Harold Russell and Mary Dean Russell; his children, David Eugene Russell Jr. of Niles, Elizabeth Everman of Niles and Sarah Jane Russell; and his siblings, Charles Miller of Woodsburgh, Dollie Dodson of Niles, Bonnie Fanus (Gary) of Elizabethtown, Devena Stewart (Phil) of Shirleysburgh, Genny Heath (Will) of Mount Union and Judy Cameneti (Jim) of Warren. He was also cherished by four grandchildren.
