He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Merrick and Elizabeth Ellen Merrick (Jones); and his siblings, Icaleen "June" Thompson, Garvin, Bill and Don Merrick.
He is survived by: his daughters, Shannon Renee Merrick of Virginia and Elizabeth Ellen Ostrowski of Wisconsin; and his siblings, Christine Rowley (Newt) of Lynchburg, Charles Merrick (Linda) of Lynchburg and Jarvis Merrick (Jay) of Beverly Hills, FL. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
