He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald L. Garner Sr. and Phyllis Garner. He is survived by: his wife Judy Garner (Duerr); his son Joseph Garner (Katlynn Davis); his parents-in-law, Eugene and Ruby Duerr; and his siblings-in-law, Nancy Baltzley (Jim) and Mark Duerr (Gail).

Don also gave the gift of sight through eye donation.
