He was predeceased by: his father John Shaffer; his son Steve Shaffer; his brother Don Shaffer; and his stepdaughter Kerry Cote. He is survived by: his wife Joan Shaffer (Beaudoin); his daughters, Connie Rose (Frank) and Terri Lynn Cornwell; his stepdaughters, Cheryl Rice and Stephanie Kelly (Tom); his siblings, Leland Shaffer (Helen), Wanda Smith (Bob), John Shaffer, Jr. (LeeAnn) and Allen Shaffer; and his sister-in-law Dixie Shaffer. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
