He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth, Sr. Abernathy and Marjorie Abernathy (West); his daughters, Susan Ausbrook and Deborah Howard; his son-in-law Donald Howard; his granddaughter Nicole Abernathy; and his brothers, Bethel and Ronald Abernathy.
He is survived by: his wife Janet Abernathy (Cross); his sons, Steve Abernathy (Sherri) of Meso and Larry Abernathy; his grandchildren, Nathan Ausbrooks, Jessica Abernathy, Rachel Smith (Michael), Mandy Hileman (Dan), Jamie Abernathy, Chelsea Dickensheets (Cody), Briana Parin (Mitch), Deceena Gains (Randy), Keesha Abernathy, Jason Ignaffo and Becky Borowske (Ryan); and his siblings, Melvin Abernathy (Carolyn) of Dayton, Shirley Moore of Dayton and Evelyn "Susie" Landis (Larry) of Tennessee. He is also survived by his 22 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
