He was predeceased by: his parent Can Bates; his wife Berdie Bates; and his brothers, Can, Jr. Bates and Robert Bates. He is survived by: his parent Anna Bates; and his children, Carter Bates, Jr. (Cindy), Ann "Sissy" Highlander, Bill Bates (Nancy) and Lisa Foland (Bobby). He is also survived by ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Dayton or Life Connection of Ohio.
