He was predeceased by: his siblings-in-law, Hazel Davis of Tupelo and Cecil Smith of Ingomar; and his sister Jettie Mae Smitherman. He is survived by: his spouse Mable Elizabeth Gates of Blue Springs; and his son Charles Anthony "Tony" Gates (DeLois Loyd Gates) of Booneville.
