He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Whitmore and Enola Smith Whitmore; his son Joe "Joey" Charles Whitmore Jr.; his grandson Nicholas Wik; his brother Jack Whitmore (Lola Ann); his parents-in-law, Charles "Doc" and Evelyn Patton; and his siblings-in-law, Amy Lackey, Laurie Walton, Don Cavote and Todd Patton.
He is survived by: his wife Leah Patton Whitmore of Nelsonville; his children, James Whitmore of Nelsonville, Jenny Wik (Brian) of Franklin, Tom Snyder (Gina Wilson) of Nelsonville and Kelly Dishong (Jay Jr.) of Pickerington; his grandchildren, Tyler Whitmore (Katie), Alex Snyder (Tim), Gage Kreuz (Stasia Webber), Allison Wik (Hunter), Leah Grace Waddell (Isaac), Cooper Wik, Hannah Snyder, Colton Snyder, Sarah Whitmore, Justin Dishong and Joseph Dishong; his great grandchildren, Corey Whitmore and Ryan Whitmore; his daughter-in-law Andrea Snyder of Nelsonville; and his sister Gay Cavote of Columbus. He is also survived by several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
