He was predeceased by: his son Clarence "Smitty" Smith III; and his sisters, Jackie Botch, Elsie McLane and Margaret Turnbull. He is survived by: his close friend Joe Dickey; his children, Gwen Darnell (John), Gail Smith and Greg Smith (Nancy); his grandchildren, Rick Kamperman (Christy), Kim Varley (Tom), Brad Smith (Ashley), C. Roman Smith IV, Skyler Smith and Reagan Smith; his great grandchildren, Jacob, Ryan Kamperman, Alayna, Tommy, Jayse and Adalynn Varley; and his nephew John Botch (Marcia).
The family has requested that memorial tributes take the form of donations to the "Clarence R. Smith Mineral Museum" at Youngstown State University.
