He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur Bruns and Adelia Bruns (Barth); his wife Betty Jane Starkey; and his sister Joanne Hoffman. He is survived by: his children, Robert Bruns, Jr., Pamela Bruns, Caroline Betts and Tim Bruns (Marci); and his grandchildren, Robert Bruns III, Matthew Bruns, Bradley Leis (Chelsea), Benjamin Leis (Connely), Alexis Cook (Anthony), Katrina Bruns and Jacob Bruns. He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church or School, CHP Hospice, or the Parkinson's Foundation.
