He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Thomas Hayes, Sr. and Dorothy Newburry (Way); his wife Belinda "Bea" Hayes; and his sisters, Ellen Coulter (Dave) and Mary Wheeler.

He is survived by: his children, Keri Stamm (Matt), Kyle Nau (Taylor) and Eric Nau (Brittany); his grandchildren, Zachary, Addison Stamm, Lily and Emersyn Nau; his stepson Ted Shroyer (Cyndi); his stepgrandchildren, Aubrey and Averie Shroyer; and his siblings, Patricia Woodcock (Donald), Carole Grocki (Dave), Gloria Kutchenriter (Jim) and Robert Hayes.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude's Children Hospital, Defiance CHP Hospice, or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
