He was predeceased by: his parents, Presley Smith and Mary Jane Smith (Bowerman); and his former wife Janice Elaine Smith. He is survived by: his wife Betty Lou Smith; his children, Mary Adkins (Brian), Brian Smith (Christina), Sherri Lemay (William), Scott Smith and Greg Smith; his brothers, Dennis, Wayne (Patti) and Jeff Smith (Liz); and his pet Smitty. He is also survived by twenty grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
