He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil Hays and Clara Hays (Hughes); his siblings, George Hays, Flora Wells and Maryetta Johnson; and his son-in-law Steve Hunt.
He is survived by: his wife Janeane Hays (Jamison); his daughters, Terry Campbell (Ross) of Williamsburg, Ohio and Connie Hunt of Williamsburg, Ohio; his grandchildren, Jami McFarland (Brian) of New Richmond, Kari Barber of Amelia, Cristin Barber (Travis) of Fayetteville and Justin Stone (Jessica) of Amelia, Ohio; and his sister-in-law Rita McQuitty of Winchester, Ohio.. He is also survived by six great grandchildren.
